March 22 - 11 / 67.5 miles

The weather forecast in the north GA mountains...SNOW! Last night was a cold night and the wind was strong. Luckily the shelter blocked most of it. We woke up this morning at 6:30 and were off by 7. Everyone else in the shelter and the tents around were sound asleep. The morning was very cold too. Most of my stuff was still soaked and my tent zipper was frozen.

After getting going it started to snow. I would much rather have it snow intead of rain. I get wet, but I don't get soaked. Will and Jimmy took off and made the pace quick today. My legs felt good today, but my lungs had a rough one in the cold weather. During our hike we met up with Caveman who hiked with us the rest of the day. He is a 20 something out of Dalton. We swapped carpet manufacturing stories.

Today was also a big day for me. It was my first day of a trail BIFF. I'll leave it at that. I did take a good spill today, but I feel fine.

We finished our 11 miles pretty quickly and stopped at Dicks Creek Gap. Once arriving at US 76 we had another dose of trail magic. Today it was from a 2006 thru hiker. It was pizza, fruit, and drinks. Also at the road was a guy who had one eye going straight and another looking to the right. It was a little freaky. But we did think it would be a good idea to get a ride into Hiawassee, GA with him. Five of us piled in the back of his truck and Jimmy got in the cab for the 11 mile ride into town. The guy said he would take tips but ended up making us pay 5 dollars each.

We got dropped of at the Hiawasse Inn. This is a 5 star resort. Ok, maybe I am lying. I was speaking with the guy at the desk tonight, and he said all but three rooms were full...all by AT hikers. It is pretty cool to run into hikers we haven't seen in a few days. We grabbed lunch at the Chinese buffet and dinner at Zaxby's. Stickerbush, Nora, Dark Star, Jimmy and I are all in the same room. Looks like I get the couch. Caveman ended up getting the honeymoon suite with his wife who ended up driving in for the evening. I think he is taking a zero day tomorrow to rest his knee. Also here are the London girls, BooBoo, TFunk, and Andy.

Oh yeah, we did walk to Ingles to resupply. I think all of us complained about not having a car and walking a quarter of a mile. Good times.

Tomorrow we are planning 11.8 miles to Muskrat Creek Shelter. This also puts us into NC. Watch out.

Ok, I am off to bed.

--People have been asking about a trail name. As of now I am going to go by BowTie. I plan to get a bowtie mailed to me and randomly wear it on the trail.

Buenas Noches, Amigos.

  4. BIFF! Did you read the scripture from Deuteronomy first?? haha! Congrats on making it through state #1. I guess it is 2010 and there are some modern conveniences that I may have over looked when questioning you about your travels (i.e. hotels, chineese food, etc.) Love reading the blog. :)

  5. Hey there - I've tried twice to add my charity pledge to you total, but no luck. Mark and I's donation will be to Camp Winshape for $0.15/mile. I give up on the actual process, but I'll keep reading your blog to learn how you're earning the money. Hopefully, you don't run into too many "scary" guys....especially after you're on your own.

  6. Stacey, it is my fault it was not updated. We have to manually update it and I am helping Brian with his blog while he is on the trail. It should be showing now.
