May 13 - 14.3 / 853.1

Overall the hike was pretty uneventful. TW, SR, Samurai, and I all were ready to get into Waynesboro for lunch. We stopped at the last shelter before town for a quick snack and that was it. It was also raining so that kept us motivated to keep hiking as fast as we could.

On the last stretch from the shelter we passed two section hikers. Ronnie was one of them and was born in Israel. He has lived in the states for a few years though. He has already thru hiked once and is back on trail just enjoying a few days.

When we got to the road you could hardly see in any direction since the haze/mist was so bad. We started to walk to the visitor center to find a ride into town. We were coming up on the parking lot when we saw a truck with "A HIKER" as the license plate. There was also a lady in the truck. SR started to approach the truck when the lady asked if we needed a ride. We couldn't turn it down. She said she was waiting on her husband. Her husband was the other section hiker we saw a few minutes earlier. Their names have slipped my. Sorry about that. They live in their RV now, but are from Hendersonville, TN. That is just right down the street from where my Nanny lives.

We rode into town with Ronnie and were dropped off at Ming's Chinese Buffet. It was like walking into Willy Wonka's land of candy. There was food everywhere, and it was really good. I don't even remember how many plates I got.

After dinner we were picked by Ken. Ken is a friend of Samurai's dad who said he would help out when Samurai came through Waynesboro. We went to Ken's and all took showers. Afterwards we all went Texas Steakhouse for dinner. Prime rib was on my plate. We watched the "The Men Who Stare at Goats." It was pretty good.

That was all for that day.

  1. Brian- I'm Margaret's sister Caroline and she gave me your blog not long after you started so I've been following along. I live in Weyers Cave, VA, about 25 min from Waynesboro. Ming's is a great place! I'll be interested to hear about your days in SNP. We try to hike there whenever we can, but mostly toddler friendly ones, not AT! Keep it up, you're an inspiration!
