I got up and got going around 7:45. Walking Man and Grace & Glory had already left. I started my hike with Fusion, and hike with him for the first 6 miles. That is when we came across some wonderful trail magic. It was a box full of soft drinks, gatorade juice boxes, capri sun, candy bars, fruit roll ups, cookies, chex mix, fruit snacks, pudding, and more. The two of us were sitting there when the rest of the guys showed up. DS pretty much walked right past us and didn't realize there was a box of food right there. I think we sat there for a good hour or so before we moved on.
We made it 0.4 miles and stopped again at a river crossing. The plan was to swim, but the water was way too cold. We sat for another 30 minutes before we headed on.
For the most part, the rest of the hike was uneventful. We stopped for a little bit at an old village site. I saw the outline of an old wall and that was about it. We finished the day at Rausch Gap Shelter. The area was an old mining area and a lot of the ground was mixed rock and coal. We did find a spot to set up tents though. We had some great down time to relax and even throw the frisbee. I also had my other shoe lace break. Therefore, I had to replace it too.
We all went to bed pretty early in order to get up early the next morning in order to get to the next town to catch the US/England World Cup Game.

The hiking and your write-ups are great, buddy. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThat trail magic you found sounds pretty amazing. I can't blame you for spending more time on THAT than in the cold river.
What were your thoughts on the USA v England game??
