June 25 - 18.8 / 1,418.5

After a late night and some great sleep, I didn't want to wake up. The sun was shinning in my tent by 5. I still laid there until 7:00ish. Even after getting out of my tent, I was sluggish to pack. All the others were too. I finally left right before 9.

I met Windguard a few miles into my day. He had hiked from Springer to Delaware Water Gap last year. He is finishing this year. We spoke for a few minutes and then we both pushed on.

I stopped around 8 miles in at a building that has a facet on the outside. I planned to make it quick and hike on. My short break turned into over an hour and lunch. I don't like eating with such short miles completed as it just makes the afternoon longer.

I passed WG again as he had passed me while eating. We spoke a little more, and I passed on the blog. I am hoping he keeps me up to date on his progress. I also caught up to Grin about a half mile before the shelter. He had left at 5:45 this morning. He is an older gentlemen so he said he has to allow for long days to do longer miles. We spoke the last half mile in. It was a very enjoyable discussion. We talked about relationships and where we were from. He lives in TX now, but grew up in PA.

The shelter is an old one room building which has since been converted. Passin' Thru, a section hiker, T and T, Grin, and Fusion are also here. There was a homeless guy here too, but I think he left knowing people were going to be around. I have a feeling he will be back some time tonight though. Not that I want to judge him, I just feel uncomfortable with him around and our gear being up for grabs. Something about him just made us all feel a little uneasy.

This one is short and sweet. TGIF for those who have jobs and now are on their weekend. For the others out there, enjoy your evening and I hope tomorrow isn't too bad.

Off to bed as I listen to someone shooting fireworks.

  1. Nice work! When do you think you will be able to catch up with the pack you hiked the first part of the trail with?
