I'm back to trying to catch up on some blogs.
On the 22nd, we woke up in the hotel with a little motivation to get out of town. The breakfast options were limited so McDonalds was our only choice. I think most of us ordered at least two or three times. Prime Minister ate the most. I think he calculated his meal as being over 2,500 calories. I decided to get a haircut while the others ran some errands around town. We finally finished everything up and headed toward the trail by late morning. Samurai, TW, and SR got the first hitch out. PM and I got another one about 20 minutes later. Phil and Coach were the two that picked us up. Coach was out for a few weeks doing some section hiking. He ended up joining us for the rest of the day's hike.
I stopped and called my mom to wish her a happy birthday. It was a brief conversation as the reception was limited and she was busy/stressing out about getting everything together for my brother's wedding.
By the end of the day, it had started to rain, and I was ready to get to the shelter. All the others were there by the time I arrived. There were also two boy scout troops there. All the tent sites were taken so I just made due by making a site on the trail to the shelter. The rain got heavier during the night. Before I knew it, I was sleeping in a puddle. Luckily most of the water stayed out of my tent, but I was pretty much floating. I didn't get much sleep as I was worried I was going to get wet. I woke up once and looked out into my vestible. Water was high enough to be going into the soles of my crocs. I also saw worms swimming around in the puddle. I was ready to get up and moving.
