May 23 - 26.2 / 1,001.6

I was the last one to get out of camp as I had to take care of my tent from sitting in the puddle all evening. I had a conversation with Coach and said my goodbyes. I enjoyed having the chance to meet him and get to know him over the last day. There is a chance we might see each other in Maine in August.

The morning was not much better when it came to the rain. If it wasn't raining then it was at least a mist. Some of the creek crossings seeming like river crossings and took some planning in order to cross. We all met up at a shelter to eat lunch. My feet were pretty tore up from the long miles and all the rain the past few days.

The rain let up as I climbed to the top of Bear Den Rocks. I got a good view from the top. I also spent some time speaking with a gentleman and four young boys. All were very inquisitive about my trip. I have said this before, but I enjoy having people ask questions about the trail, especially younger kids. During the discussion, I spoke about trail angels and trail magic. Before I knew it, the man was pulling out a chewy snack bar. I felt bad cause in no way was I wanting to get food. I tried to turn it down, but he wouldn't let me. I took their picture and passed on my blog. I hope they take the chance to follow me.

Shortly after Bears Den, I got to the West Virginia state line. I took some pictures and then rested for a little bit while looking out into the valley from Crescent Rock. I figured the others would be right behind me, but no one appeared after about 30 minutes. Not wanting to hike in the dark, I headed on.

I crossed the 1,000 mile mark and stopped at the Blackburn Trail Center. The Center is maintained by PATC and allows hikers to stay in the bunkhouse or on a porch for free. I opted to stay on the porch. I was treated to a nacho dinner by the caretaker. PM was already there and Samurai showed up about an hour later. The fog was so bad once it got dark that Samurai had to hold his headlamp in his hand in order to see the trail. I got a text from TW saying her and SR had stopped hiking about 6 miles back. They were too tired to hike any further.

I got a view of DC from the porch before going to sleep. The evening was a little chilly, but nice since I was staying dry.
