Sky's mom drove us back to Hanover around 7. We had been told by a few people that we needed to stop at Lou's for breakfast. The trail went right through the town and right by Lou's. I had the best breakfast on trail there. It was a huge omelet. I can't even remember what all was in it. It came with a muffin so I went with a coffee cake muffin. It was fresh and moist.
After breakfast Samurai and I went to the post office. I needed to mail some stuff home and other boxes ahead. Inferno went to the grocery to resupply and then hit the trail. I was at the post office way too long and with my gear spread out all over the floor. I did get some strange looks as I think people thought I was living there.
After the post office Samurai and I went to the outfitter which slowed us down even more. I bought something to help with the chaffing. Eventually, we left there, resupplied, and left town. I think it was after noon before we left.
In to the hike Samurai and I were talking. I made a comment about the mileage. For some reason I thought we were doing 20 when we actually had 23 to do. Some time in to the hike, we passed Lola and Sunrise. They were making it a short day and hiking to the fire warden's cabin the next day. Sam and I were pushing to the cabin in one day.
Before making the final climb up to the cabin, Sam and I stopped at a house which offers water. The couple was not home so we just sat on their front porch. They had a trail register which we both signed. I was the 116th person to sign. They also had soft drinks in a cooler for 50 cents. We each had two. It was nearing 8 pm when we started to pack up. Just then, a car pulled up and the couple got out. We spoke with the gentlemen who offered us ice cream. We accepted. From our conversation, we were told that out of the first 100 hikers to sign the register, 25 were females. That is a pretty high stat.
It was nearly dark when we left, and we still had 6 miles to do. I was in pain from the miles, the long day, and chaffing. We finally made it to the top around 11. Someone was already sleeping in the fire tower and the cabin was nearly full. We sent up our tents just outside the cabin and instantly fell asleep.
